A Veterans Day Reflection

The American Legion National Commander Clarence E. Hill

 

November brings with it a special day – Veterans Day – a time for us to honor and celebrate the brave men and women who have sacrificed for our freedoms. In recognition of those who have served, CUA’s Metropolitan School of Professional Studies cordially invites CUA students, faculty, and staff to join us for a special program - Honoring Those Who Have Served: A Veterans Day Reflection – with The American Legion National Commander Clarence E. Hill.

 

National Commander Hill will discuss the history of Veterans Day, describe the changing nature and needs of veterans over the years, discuss the role of The American Legion in advocating for and serving a new population of veterans, and share his perspective on the deep importance of remembering our veterans and their sacrifices. Event details follow:

About National Commander Clarence E. Hill: A Legionnaire of 27 years, Clarence E. Hill was elected National Commander of The American Legion in August 2009. In 1972 he was commissioned from the U. S. Naval Academy and holds a record of distinguished service. He served 19 of his 24 years with the U.S. Navy on sea duty and retired as a captain in 1996. National Commander Hill’s afloat service included one frigate, two destroyers, two cruisers, Cruiser-Destroyer Group 12 in Mayport, Fla., and the 6th Fleet in Gaeta, Italy. He served as officer-in-charge of a PT boat, commanded the Naval Communications Station UK, and the guided missile frigate USS MCINERNEY (FFG-8) for two years, including combat operations during Operation Desert Storm.
