Helen Smetheram, M.S.


With over 20 years in the field of Educational Technology, Professor Smetheram’s area of expertise is Instructional Design, creating online courses with a variety of local, nation-wide, and international universities. With a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Rollins College in Winter Park, FL and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD her career launched in K-12 schools. After working with middle school teachers to incorporate technology into their subject area curriculum, she moved in to the area of educating teachers and staff in their attendance, grading, and student information systems. Professor Smetheram obtained a Graduate Certificate in Adult Learning from Johns Hopkins University. She is currently the Instructional Technology Team Lead at The Catholic University of America. For the past two years, she has taught some of the entry-level computer courses for The Catholic University’s Metropolitan School of Professional Studies. Professor Smetheram lives in Maryland with her two dogs as her adult children come and go. Her son graduated from college in 2016 and is working events and activities at a beach resort in Florida. Her daughter will graduate from college in 2020.
