  • At MSPS, Manuel has been a member of the Advisory Board and the Scholarship Committee.

Manuel was born on the island of Pico, Azores. While studying in Rome, he was chosen by the Vatican to be a Latin interpreter / translator during the proceedings of Vatican Council in the early sixties. In 1981, Manuel joined the Voice of America in Washington. There he became the Chief of Portuguese to Africa, editing and managing for a group of journalists who broadcast news and information to the five Portuguese speaking countries in Africa. Now Manuel works at VOA with African radio and TV stations offering them equipment and programming in ten different languages. This kind of support is sometimes vital in giving independent voices to people living in sub-Saharan Africa.
