1) Summer 2011 Registrationstarts on Tuesday, March 15, 2011

Registration for Summer 2011 begins on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Metropolitan has a great variety of course offerings, includingaccelerated and onlineclasses - don't miss this opportunity to select the classes you need and want!

2)Salary Negotiation for Women Workshop: Wednesday, March 16, 2011
The Office of Career Services is hosting a workshop titled “Salary Negotiation for Women” on Wednesday, March 16, 2011  from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in Pryzbyla Room 321.  The Alumni Relations Office has organized a panel of women alumni as part of the program.  Learn how women can prepare and succeed in negotiating a salary and benefits package they deserve. 3) MSPS Second Annual Business Case Competition:  Friday, April 1, 2011
The Metropolitan School of Professional Studies (MSPS) would like to cordially invite you to participate in our Spring 2011 signature event, the second annual Business Case Competition! The case competition will be held on Friday, April 1 2011, from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. in Caldwell Hall. All MSPS students are encouraged to either participate in the competition or to join us as spectators. A buffet dinner will be served one hour prior to the start of the competition, from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
 
What is a Case Competition?
A case competition is an exciting way for you, as a student, to showcase the knowledge and skills you have acquired during your studies at MSPS and throughout your varied and rich professional experiences. By competing in teams to offer the best solution for a particular business case study, you will have the opportunity to bring your expertise to bear, hone your professional presentation skills, demonstrate your ability to work well in teams, compete for exciting prizes, add a refreshing and impressive résumé item, and, potentially, earn unique bragging rights!

4) 2011- 2012 Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society Scholarship Application Now Available
The Alpha sigma Lambda Adult Education Foundation is pleased to announce that it will grant a total of eight scholarships of $1,600 each for the 2011-2012 academic year.  The criteria for applicants are as follows:
·         Is enrolled in a baccalaureate degree program at CUA’s MSPS
·         Completed 30 semester hours at CUA.  (Do not include accepted transfer credits.)
·         Achieved a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.2 on a 4.0 scale
·         Be 24 years of age or older
·         Has a financial need for assistance to complete the degree
·         Student does not have to be a member of the local Alpha Sigma Lambda chapter to apply
Alpha Sigma Lambda is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career. By so doing, this Society encourages many students to continue toward and to earn associate and baccalaureate degrees.

6)Reminder:DSST On-Campus Exam Date Approaching
DSST provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate college-level learning through a program of exams in undergraduate college courses.
 
Spring 2011 On-Campus Testing Date:
 
Friday, March 25, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (please arrive at MSPS by 8:30 am)

7)Paper Writing Workshop: Clarity, Coherence and Cohesion – Sunday, March 27, 2011

8)Senior Audits – Degree-Seeking Undergraduate Students
Degree-seeking undergraduates students nearing senior academic status (i.e., 90 credits) are required to complete a senior audit. The senior audit encompasses a full review of your academic record (e.g., courses completed, grades earned, etc.) and presents an opportunity to discuss the remaining courses in your degree program and preparation for graduation. This brief, 30-minute meeting is required. To schedule your audit, please contact Melissa Stevenson, MSPS Manager of Student Programs and Development, via e-mail at stevenson@cua.edu or phone -- (202) 319-5264 -- as soon as possible. Please note that students may be prohibited from enrolling in future terms until the audit is completed.

9)Washington, D.C. Career Expo - Wednesday, April 20, 2011, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Location: The Almas Temple at the Hamilton Crowne Hotel, 1315 K Street, NW, Washington, D.C., 20005
This Career Expo is specifically for women.  There are several seminars in this free four hour event which include: Power Seminars, Mentor Match, Perfect Pitch, Resume Reviews, Engaging Employers, and Exceptional Connections.  This event has free admission but you are required to register online and bring resumes.  Business attire is required and parking fees are not included.

11)Inclement Weather Information
 
Is CUA Open or Closed?
The Office of Public Affairs wishes to remind faculty, staff, and students how to find out about the closing or delayed opening of Catholic University because of inclement weather. The quickest ways to find out are to check the CUA website at www.cua.edu or to call the university’s main number — 202-319-5000. The information is available through those two sources by 6 a.m. on days when weather conditions are extremely poor. In addition, CUA contacts all local TV outlets and major radio stations.

12) Immunization Records Requirement for Students under the age of 26.
The District of Columbia Immunization Law (§ 38-502) and university policy requires all students that are enrolled in an academic institution and are under the age of 26 years of age (unless the student has a Medical Waiver or Religious Waiver approved by Student Health Services) to provide documentation of immunity to certain preventable diseases.  The Catholic University of America, in accordance with this law, requires that this documentation be submitted by all students under the age of 26 years. 14) CUA Center for Academic Success Announcements
 
Purpose: Provide comprehensive learning assistance program to enhance learning potential and promote academic success
Services: Tutoring services (not available in Summer term). If you feel that you would benefit from one-on-one peer tutoring in Fall or Spring classes, please see your faculty member. Your instructor will be able to provide you with additional information on how best to establish tutoring support via the CUA Center for Academic Success.
 
CAS also offers a number of workshops throughout the semester focused on improving your skills in areas like time management, reading, and note-taking as well is in more complex subject areas. The Spring 2011 workshop schedule can be found at http://success.cua.edu/services/

17) Cardinal Mail
 
Available exclusively for CUA students, Cardinal Mail service greatly expands your mail storage, gives you access to Google Docs, and even helps with your calendar, all in the popular Google Gmail interface.

You can forward Cardinal Mail to the e-mail account of your choice! Instructions follow:
Log in to Cardinal Mail
Go to “Settings” (Top right-hand corner)
Click “Forwarding to POP/IMAP”
Choose the “forward incoming mail to” box and type in your preferred email address
Choose whether you would like to save, delete, or archive the mail in your Cardinal Mail
Scroll to the bottom of the page and Save Changes
 
NOTE: The CUA e-mail account is the university's official means of communication with students, so it is very important that you access it on a regular basis. Essential communications such as balances due are sent to your CUA account – the university no longer provides paper bills (please see info on CardinalPay below). Federal Financial Aid for2010-2011 Continuing Students:
For students continuing in the 2010-2011 academic year, the CUA Office of Financial Aid requires the 2010 -2011 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students can file the FAFSA for the upcoming year after it is available on January 1st.
